“During my time at OSU, I have learned to be confident in my abilities,” Baillie Miller said. “It is important to remind myself to be open to new experiences and opportunities, and to not shy away from things out of my comfort zone.”

Miller currently serves as a communications intern for the Oklahoma City Thunder. In this position, Miller handles the microphone at media days, records and transcribes interviews and puts together media packets.

Her favorite part is being able to work all games and practices for the Thunder.

“I would love to pursue a career as a sideline reporter or do marketing for a sports organization,” Miller said.

Miller completed an internship in the sports department of The Oklahoman during the summer of 2017. She was mentored by Jenni Carlson, a sports columnist for the Oklahoman, and got to interview NBA players Buddy Hield, from the Sacramento Kings, and Josh Richardson, from the Miami Heat.

“My courses in SMSC have truly helped me learn how to execute a game story,” Miller said. “My professors were an excellent resource before I started my internships.”

Miller also gained experience working for the Russell Westbrook Why Not? Foundation's basketball camp and philanthropy events.

“I ran all social media for the Why Not? Bowl,” Miller said. “It was cool to not only work with Westbrook, but to get practice in something that relates to my major.”

Miller is involved with the Sports Media Club and Student Alumni Board. She also served as the chief Panhellenic officer and sports chair of her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta.

“My involvement in SMSC and on the OSU campus has given me skills in leadership, organization and communication,” Miller said.

Miller looks forward to the 2017-2018 season with the Thunder. She is optimistic about completing her degree and looks forward to her future career in the world of sports.
