SMSC resumed its annual Sports Media Camp for high school students this June. The camp, which started in 2007, was postponed due to COVID the past two years.

The fourteen campers from Oklahoma, Texas, and other states got a chance to learn about potential sports media careers as well as experience what life will be like as an OSU student by staying in a campus residence hall.

Campers got a taste of print and broadcast activities, such as anchoring a television sportscast and participating in a mock news conference with OSU men's assistant basketball coach Barry Hinson. Camp activities were capped off with a trip to Tulsa to record their audio play-by-play of a Drillers (Double-A) baseball game at ONEOK Field.

The "Voice of the Cowboys," Dave Hunziker, served once again as camp director with assistance from OSU faculty and staff and SMSC graduate Adam Hildebrandt, radio play-by-play voice for Oral Roberts University basketball and baseball. Current SMSC students Toni Whitmore and Ben Hutchens served as camp counselors.
