Madison Huffines said she believes job shadowing is extremely important.

"Freshmen and sophomores should do plenty of research before selecting a major," she said. "There are endless opportunities out there."

Huffines also said internships are essential. She interned with Make a Wish Oklahoma at the Tulsa branch as a development intern the summer before her senior year.  She also had an internship with OSU Health Department for Oklahoma ABLE Tech doing graphic design work the spring semester of her senior year.

“I think it looks good to employers to have at least two internships on your resume,” she said. “It’s awesome to have those professional references for employers to contact because they’ll be looking for them.”

Huffine’s career path after college led her to being Oklahoma Dental Association’s membership communications manager. Her job is to help retain and recruit its members through communications efforts, plan smaller events that offer resources for members and do graphic design work for the company.

The Paul Miller Building is where students go to class, take exams and give presentations, but it’s also where Huffines had some of her fondest memories.

“My favorite memories in the Paul Miller Building are the times I was staying there late, working on stuff for professor [Gina] Noble’s class with my friends,” she said. “We would turn our music on, edit our stuff and be goofy. We would be delirious.

"Seniors need to work hard on portfolios and resumes, and it’s important they stand out.  Do not get discouraged in the job hunt," she said. “It’s tough to get a job, but it’ll come, and it’ll be great wherever you end up.”
