The Coordinator of Social Media supports the purpose and core values of the Alumni Association by creating and maintaining a strong online presence using new technologies and trends.  The Coordinator of Social Media is responsible for developing original content and suggesting creative ways to promote the Alumni Association's events and programs via various social media channels and the mobile app through the creation of digital video, images, text and graphics.  The position wil be responsible for monitoring and engaging key audiences on all Alumni Association digital platforms, as well as evaluating website, social media and mobile app analytics to implement new strategies to improve key metrics.

Job Title:  Coordinator of Communications

Reports To:  Director of Communications & Marketing

Nature of Work:  The Coordinator of Communications develops marketing and communications that support the purpose and core values of the Alumni Association.  The Coordinator of Communications will maintain the image of the organization through journalistic and news writing, while providing editorial content for various media including STATE magazine, OrangeBytes electronic newsletters, and program and event marketing campaigns.  This position will also assist in building relationships with university communication partners.

Core Responsibilities:  The duties and responsibilities described below are the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be all inclusive for this position.

Program Coordination

* Maintain the editorial calendar for the Alumni Association portion of STATE magazine
     * Create and edit magazine stories
     * Coordinate design and photography needs with University Marketing
* Write news and feature content for the Alumni Association website
* Create and distribute press releases for all programs
* Assist in producing content for event and program marketing and upload to various communication mediums including the website
* Create various electronic newsletters to effectively communicate the Alumni Association's and the university's messages to targeted markets
* Work with individual colleges to facilitate targeted messaging to alumni
* Assist with student and alumni awards as assigned, including production of honoree videos and event script writing
* Perform other duties as assigned

Organizational Support

* Collaborate with Alumni Association programs to execute communications and marketing plans
* Maintain goals and objectives by providing communication data and analytics for Alumni Association programs
* Oversee the general email account for the Alumni Association
* Provide excellent customer service to all constituents inquiring about Alumni Association programs and events
* Support the Alumni Association by having sufficient knowledge of programs and services offered, and professionally represents the organization
   in a positive manner
* Effectively organizes and balances tasks and priorities to keep multiple duties on track
* Work with and provide guidance to student workers

Job Competencies and Experience

Education

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or related field required

Experience

One to three years of experience in communications, journalism, marketing, business or public relations is preferred

Skills

* Journalistic writing skills
* AP Style knwoledge
* Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interview skills
* Computer literacy in Adobe Creative suite is required and proficiency with a MAC operating system is preferred
* Social media, photography, videography and video editing skills are preferred
* Experience with the design and production of print materials is preferred

Work Environment:  The position is housed in an office setting within the OSU Alumni Center.  Events and activities may be held outside so there will be some limited outdoor exposure.  Position requires availability to work nights and weekends as determined by event scheduling.
