Dave Hunziker, the “Voice of the Cowboys” on the Oklahoma State Cowboy Radio Network, has served as an adjunct instructor since 2007. He teaches Sports Announcing in the fall semester, a course which offers instruction on the basic elements and techniques employed by sports broadcasters. Students learn the basic elements of sports play-by-play announcing and anchoring, and are also offered insight regarding the business side of the sports broadcasting industry. Students in the course have the chance to broadcast OSU football and women’s basketball games on tape. Each student’s work is critiqued regularly to ensure that proper techniques are understood and implemented.
Hunziker is in his 11th season as the play-by-play voice of OSU football and men’s basketball. He’s announced major college sports for 18 years, with stops at Radford University and Western Kentucky University prior to his arrival in Stillwater in 2001. He’s a 1988 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and resides in Stillwater. Hunziker was the 2011 recipient of the Bill Teegins Excellence in Sportscasting Award, which honors a sportscaster with ties to Oklahoma each year.
