John David Joins Giants of Broadcasting

Longtime NAB executive John David (B.S., Broadcast Journalism,1968) represented radio in the Library of American Broadcasting Foundation's 16th Annual Giants of Broadcasting and Electronic Arts event November 14, 2018 in New York.  David programmed and managed radio stations in Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas before becoming a station owner for 17 years.  He joined the trade group as VP of Broadcaster Congressional Relations in 1989.  The 30-year NAB vet transitioned to a senior advisory role in February after serving as exec VP of Radio, gave props to his NAB cohorts and the radio people he helped recruit to "this great association."

Other honorees at the event were:  Bill Abbott, President & CEO, Crown Media Family Networks; Jack Abernethy, CEO, Fox Television Stations; Ed Asner, award-winning actor; Elizabeth Murphy Burns, President & CEO, Morgan Murphy Media; David Lougee, President & CEO, Tegna; Bill Whitaker, Correspondent, "60 Minutes," CBS News; Paula Zahn, Producer/Host, "On the Case with Paula Zahn," Investigation Discovery.  A posthumous award was given to Eugene McDonald, Jr., who in 1923 founded Zenith Radio Corp. and the National Association of Broadcasters and was named its first president.
